Kahu Ngore. Very large cloak. Ngore variety of cloak, a type of cloak particular (but not exclusive) to the years 1835 -1860. Made of muka / flax fibre with a woollen thread border and stitching around all 4 sides. It has light circular areas over the surface where there probably used to be tassels or circular decorative elements attached. It had pompoms but these are missing. The woollen border at the top of the cloak is in better condition then the other three sides. The colours in the border are black, white and an orange/ red. There are areas of stitched patterning on the outer thirds of the cloak. Each outer third has two rows of horizontally orientated rectangles. The coloured rectangles are made up of thread (stiched vertically with gaps between) in orange/ red, black, green and yellow. Each coloured rectangle has a plain rectangular area inbetween, the coloured rectangles are arranged to create a checkerboard effect. Kahu Ngore. Very large cloak.
