Korowai

Description
The kaupapa of this Korowai is made out of muka. It is adorned with a mixture of hukahuka (thrums) and karure (loosely reversed twisted hukahuka) dyed in paru. Black wool used as hukahuka is also viasble throughout the kaupapa. Woollen adornments on Korowai was common with the wool thread looped into the kaupapa of a kākahu as decoration this was known as "Pāheke". Pāheke with longer loops is visable on both edges and pāheke with shorter loops is visable throughout the kaupapa. Whenu tapiri (finished edged warps) were produced for a subtle and pleasant finish, these are the Pink and Red twisted wool located on the edge and visable on the back of the Korowai.
