Kahu Huruhuru

Feathers of European origin; chicken & some peacock. Synthetic kaupapa (foundation), appears to be either candlewick or something similar. Synthetic thread used for aho (binding thread). The binding technique used is whatu ahopātahi (single paired twine), the gaps between each row are approx 15mm. 3 aho poka (shaping row); 30mm from top border, 80mm from top, and 160mm from bottom. Twisted woolen border along edges in red, pink, yellow and green colours which have worn away in some areas. Woolen border along bottom fringe is approx 60mm from edge, twined using a decorative technique variation called pāheke (short looped twine).
