Rigged as a barquentine. She was sold in July so this could be her first run for Westport Coal. She was "burned to the water's edge" after being beached at Quail Island. The derelict often alleged to be the Frank Guy was made of iron and is not her.

That front ship is the "Frank Guy". My ancestor Walter Henry Clayton owned it from early 1905 thru 1906 until he sold it to the Westport Coal Company. I do wonder if he made any money using this ship as it was caught in a storm in 1905 off Australia and had to have rather expensive repairs. Captain Ware who commanded the boat later on went to be the custodian of the Tuahine Lighthouse. After many years as a coal hulk, the ship was finally towed to Quail Island near Lyttleton in 1938 and beached. I believe you can still see it there.
