Biography
"Mayor for the past four years, and previously a Borough Councillor; chairman of the Gisborne School Committee; member of the Hawke's Bay Education Board; chairman Citizens' Defence Committee; and prominent in many local matters; contested Gisborne seat against sitting member at last election, and put up a great fight. Came to Gisborne from South Island many years ago, and for a number of years conducted a successful business, which he disposed of in order to devote more time to municipal matters. A Keen sport. Mr Wildish was much associated with all branches of athletics in his earlier days, and still takes keen interest in all local sports bodies. One time Superintendent of the Gisborne Fire Brigade, and now a member of the Fire Board".
