Biography
Brian Campbell was born in Invercargill in 1953. A printmaker of dramatic woodcuts, Brian uses quirky and at times bizarre imagery, giving a unique flavour to his prints and paintings. A prominent period in his making is marked by his monochromatic 'corrugated iron' woodcuts, in which the landscape and everything on it seems to be made of the ubiquitous metal. These are one of a series of prints going back to 1985 which have a funky, humorous quality. Campbell makes comments about aspects of society and modes of living, disguised in a surreal, cartoon presentation.

Campbell has taken part in a multitude of group shows, including the Montana Lindauer Art Awards. He creates paintings and prints predominantly, but has also created sterling silver jewellery, slip cast pottery, screenprinted clothing (particularly T-shirts), graphic art, and magazine illustrations. He has also tutored at Pāremoremo Prison and at Tūranganui-a-Kiwa School and the Tairāwhiti Polytechnic.
