Biography
V Leachman's 1996 notes: C Aubrey seems to have painted throughout most of New Zealand, to have been in Otago and Southland in the 1870s and to have stayed on back country stations in the 1880s. When he was in country houses near Riverton he often left sketches there in return for hospitality received.
In 1879 he held an art union in Riverton of Riverton and Stewart Island watercolours. In 1889 he was in Wellington, around the Wanganui and the Manawatu and Wairarapa areas in the 1890s, and in Auckland area in 1898.
His wash drawings of country scenery and country towns were a regular feature of the New Zealand Graphic from 1898 - 1902.
His drawings of buildings suggest that he was trained as an architectural draughtsman.
