From catalogue card for 1986.148: Basket factory was situated on the riverbank of the Turanganui, behind the courthouse (where the RSA used to be).
Comments added by Granddaughter, online collections: "He was born 14th July 1896 and went off to war at 18 yrs old.
It was in the 3rd battle of Leper (Ypres) in 1917 on the Western Line that he was shot in the base of his spine and fell, lying on the battle field for 3 days before his comrades could rescue him.
This left him crippled for life and the bullet remained in his spine till his death on 14th August 1979 aged 83".
