Hoe, Boat paddle

Wooden hoe/ paddle. According to Dave Simmons (June 1980) this piece was probably carved by a European. It is a copy of 'Titori' of Ngapuhi, which is in the Dresden Museum. It has cirular and triangular paua shell inlays on the blade. There is a round knob/ head at the top of the handle. The shaft of the hoe divides into two, just above half way, and rejoins again creating an oval shape where it separated. The blade is carved with lines and geometric motifs. There is a stylised figure on the centre of the blade.
