Description
Mere pounamu / Greenstone mere/ cleaver like weapon. Medium green colouration. The stone has black flecks and some paler green patches. There are also some pale veins and natural flaws. The butt edge is rounded and tapers in very slightly at the neck. The piece then tapers out toward the rounded blade end. The butt has 3 grooves on both sides. The grooves do not continue around the lateral edges. There is a suspension aperture just below the lowest groove. It appears to have been made with a European drill. It has a length of plaited muka looped through it and knotted loosely at one end. The blade is lightly chipped.
