This photo was taken between 1923 and 1934. The section opposite the Post Office had a boarding house and store built for Charles Neal - it was destroyed by fire on 18 Nov 1922. The Matawai Hotel was subsequently erected on the section in 1934, being part of the Motu Hotel transferred to Matawai.
