Waipaoa River from Kaiteratahi Hill, looking east toward Ormond, 1893. A handwritten note found behind the copy photograph in the vertical files reads: 1893 Looking towards Ormond from Kaiteratahi hill. From 1872 there was a twice weekly hooded express drawn by 3 horses between Gisborne and Ormond. It took 6 hours to make the 12 mile journey at a cost of 3/- single 5/- return. In the winter of 187? [the] express was bogged down and it was spring before it could be dug [out].
