Thre following comments made by Doug Curtis 90 yrs on Face book 10.6.2022 about this photo. I think it would be nice for them to be recorded with picture. Douglas Curtis Just a story about the Road Services Garage in Grey Street. I was there to inspect Buses and was asked by Staff mechanic Allan ,[can't remember his surname name at moment ] to have a look at a new lathe and radial drill they had just received from the Railway workshops in Wellington . Both had been repatriation equipment from WW11 and came from Germany, so all the instructions were in German and to make thing more complicated were metric,, All the Bus components were English Bedford's or American and all used Imperial threads and sizes. I told Allan to get hold of a conversion chart for the sizes and get the Railway head office to transpose the German instruction to English, but being metric their new gear had limited use, How's that for a 91 year old's memory. Douglas Curtis The Wrecker is Ormond's motors 1937 Chevrolet with extra cab extension that held spare parts used in breakdowns, I drove it once or twice a week towing an ex military style single axle trailer filled with workshop rubbish to the Council tip in Awapuni Road at that time 1948-early 50's . Pretty certain 1938 Chevrolet car was a used car, Not sure about the English sedan but the nose of the wee car in Bright street was Charlie Webb's wee Morris, Charlie worked with Colin Hacche and I servicing new Vauxhall cars, The Methodist Church later became the Old Folks Assn, and my Dad was President The empty section the cars and wrecker are parked in was later fenced and was a park for NZR Buses when they used ex Redstones Coach stable for Servicing Road Services Buses with entrance off Grey street, I inspected the Road Services Fleet for COF in their Garage 1958-63, Later Pulled down for new Post Office,
