Toki

Description
Greywacke adze found in Root Street, Gisborne, garden. Very badly damaged blade. Large concave shaped chunk missing at the blade, the damage is visible from both sides though one side is more damaged. The piece has been hammer-dressed and according to Marianne Duncan, Auckland University, the piece is done in a late local style. Roughly arch shaped at lateral and poll end. Polished in what can roughly be described as a triangular section up from the blade on one side, the poll end is a lighter colouration as it has only been lightly polished and is still lightly pitted.
