Description
Tan coloured leather suitcase with a central carry handle and two leather straps with metal buckles. Metal push button clasp with keyhole (no key), and two metal slide clasps at the outer edge. Metal frame. The interior is lined with burgundy coloured leather with central flap dividing the bag into two parts. The central flap has pockets and slots on one side. There is a leather name tag attached to the carry handle with W. D. Lysnar / Gisborne handwritten on an internal piece of paper, and there is a cardboard tag from Hotel Cecil, Wellington, New Zealand, upon which W D Lysnar, Gisborne, is handwritten. There are remnants of various travel labels on the outside of the case, including one for WAIROA.
Inscribed into a metal panel on the front of the case is: PRESENTED / BY THE CITIZENS OF / GISBORNE / TO W. D. LYSNAR. ESQ. MAYOR / ON THE EVE OF HIS / DPARTURE FOR LONDON / 24TH MAY 1910.
