Hatbox
Description
Hatbox: brown coloured, textured with horizontal lines, with hinged lid. The initials V. E. M. are painted in black on the lid. The hatbox is constructed from canvas covered card with a leather-like appearance. The edges are reinforced with a tan coloured canvas strips. The lid is attached at the rear with a five brown painted metal studs. The interior is lined with printed green paper, and has repairs around the edges with a blue and white chequered textile. There are remnants of travel labels on the exterior of the hatbox, including: New Zealand Railways / GISBORNE.
There is a brown coloured leather strap with a metal buckle around the exterior of the hatbox, the strap is broken on the punched holes end, above where the strap is interlocked with the buckle.
